Coldwell Banker offers seminars
Coldwell Banker Pacific Properties is hosting two free foreclosure prevention seminars put on by the Hawaii Home Ownership Center.
The first will take place at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Makakilo Community Recreation Center at 92-1140 Makakilo Drive, and the second at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Hawaii HomeOwnership Center at 1259 Aala Street, Unit 201.
Among the topics at the seminars will be how President Barack Obama's financial stability plan can be used to save homes by allowing people to refinance even though the values of their homes have declined. They also will discuss how struggling homeowners can use loan modification to reduce interest rates to as low as 2 percent. Other topics include how short sales can help homeowners and bankruptcy options. Seating is limited. Call 947-8110 for reservations.
Lawyers to donate pro bono work
The Honolulu-based law firm of Starn O'Toole Marcus & Fisher has committed to provide at least 50 hours a week of free services to low- and moderate-income members of the community.
The firm, which specializes in large real estate and hotel industry as well as complex commercial litigation, is staffed with 25 attorneys and eight paralegals.
“;We are especially happy to have the cooperation of Starn O'Toole Marcus & Fisher in providing leadership for the Hawaii State Bar's commitment to providing services for low- and moderate-income persons,”; said Hawaii Supreme Court Justice Simon R. Acoba, who also serves as chairman of the Access to Justice Commission.
Peter Starn, chairman of Starn O'Toole Marcus & Fisher, encouraged other law firms to follow suit.
“;We are happy to continue our long-standing history of contributing our skills and expertise to community members in need, and encourage other organizations to do likewise,”; he said.

The law firm of Starn O’Toole Marcus & Fisher has committed to having each of its lawyers and paralegals provide 50 hours a year of free services to low- and moderate-income members of the community. A business brief on Page 21 Monday said the firm was performing 50 hours a week of pro bono work.
