» Kurt Suzuki (Baldwin) and his wife are hosting a memorabilia auction that started on Friday and ends today to benefit Jon Wilhite, the only survivor of the April 9 car accident that killed Anaheim Angels pitcher Nick Adenhart and two others. Suzuki and Wilhite were teammates at Cal State Fullerton in 2004. “;I only hope that the money raised will alleviate some of the cost that Jon and his family will be faced with during his long rehab process,”; said Suzuki in an article in the Orange County Register. Suzuki currently leads the Athletics with a .297 batting average.
» Shane Victorino (St. Anthony's) has hit safely in eight of his last nine games after going 1-for-4 in yesterday's 5-4 loss to the Yankees.
» Dane Sardinha (Kamehameha) went 0-for-3 on Thursday after missing five games with a sprained right ring finger. Serving as Detroit's backup catcher, the righty has only one hit in 19 at-bats this year.
» Tyler Yates (Kauai) was placed on the 15-day disabled list on May 17 (retroactive to May 16) with right elbow inflammation. The right-handed relief pitcher threw a light bullpen session yesterday, and the Pirates are hopeful he can return to their lineup on May 31.
» Kala Ka'aihue ('Iolani) is mired in a 1-for-22 batting slump over his past 10 games and is hitting .128 in May.
» Matt Inouye (Mid-Pacific) was released by White Sox single-A affiliate Kannapolis on May 12. Inouye went hitless in 21 consecutive at-bats before being released.
» Los Angeles Dodgers' single-A affiliate Great Lakes placed catcher Esteban Lopez (Hawaii) on the reserve list.
» Matt Daly (Hawaii) has allowed only two hits in his last nine relief appearances, dropping his ERA to 1.53 this season.
» Onan Masaoka ( Waiakea) returns to competitive baseball after a seven-year absence, during which time he earned a degree in business from Hawaii-Hilo. The former Dodgers pitcher currently sports a 5.19 ERA with 11 strikeouts.
» Shane Komine (Kalani) was placed on the disabled list by the Newark Bears of the independent Atlantic League on April 28.
» Todd Takayoshi (Hawaii) enters his third season as the Angels minor league hitting coordinator. It is his eighth season as coach in the organization.
» Chuck Crim (Hawaii) is in his first season as pitching coach for the Ogden Raptors, a Dodgers single-A affiliate.
» Bruce Walton (Hawaii) is in his eighth season as bullpen coach for the Toronto Blue Jays.
