Online auction

If you haven't already, check out HI Art Magazine, a free online publication started in 2007 that covers the local art scene. In June, the magazine is featuring an auction of donated works from its “;idspace”; gallery. Proceeds will benefit the magazine.

Pieces have no holding price, so bidders are able to set the price they wish to pay. Artists contributing work include Clayton Amemiya, Steven Garon, Shingo Honda, Meidor Hu, Darrell Orwig, Margo Ray, Mike Shewmaker, Gary Steinborn, Randy Takaki, Kaori Ukaji and Scott Yoell.

The magazine's current edition features a beautiful photo essay of Myanmar by physician Steven Garon, who participates in medical missions to the country. Scott Yoell's “;Monopoly”; installation explores the global manufacturing of “;paradise,”; and an essay by Darrell Orzig discusses the state of the arts during the recession.

The site also offers letters to the editor, poetry, essays, a comic strip, notices and a statewide events calendar.

» The Native Hawaiian Arts Market & Keiki Festival continues today at Bishop Museum from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Art demos, and traditional work such as feather work and weaponry, plus contemporary fiber and paintings, await visitors.
