Artists Americo and Eva Makk will present two historical paintings today to the consul general of Hungary, Ambassador Balazs Bokor.

The Makks have lived and painted in Hawaii for more than 40 years and have shown their work on five continents. The public is invited to a reception at Island Art Galleries in the Hyatt Regency Waikiki from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Bokor is accepting the 6-by-8-foot paintings on behalf of the Hungarian government. They will join 11 other original Makk oils depicting significant moments in Hungarian history as part of a permanent exhibition in its own wing at the Museum of Hungarian Military History in Budapest. The collection was recently appraised at $19.5 million, a release said.

The Makks have painted ceiling and wall murals in 13 cathedrals and capital buildings in Brazil. Their portraits of Cardinal Mindszenty and President Ronald Reagan hang in the Vatican and the Reagan Museum, respectively, a release said.
