Chicago police arrest man who fled after shooting

A 19-year-old man suspected of shooting and critically injuring a 24-year-old man in McCully May 14 was arrested by police in Chicago yesterday.

Police said the suspect got into the victim's car, pointed a handgun at him in an attempt to take his property and told him to drive. He then shot the victim twice while they traveled several blocks from Fern and Hoawa streets, where the car stopped and the suspect got out and fled, police said.

A $1 million arrest warrant was issued, and the suspect is being brought back to Hawaii to face charges of second-degree attempted murder, first-degree robbery and firearm charges.

The victim is recovering and was in good condition yesterday, police said.
