Man tells his son of hit-run; son turns father in to cops

Police cited an 84-year-old Lihue man after his son told police that his father left the scene of a pedestrian accident Saturday evening, according to a Kauai county news release.

A 55-year-old woman suffered minor injuries when she was crossing Nawiliwili Road at Haleko Road and was hit by a pick-up truck.

The Lihue man who drove the truck went home and told his son what had happened. His son then notified police.

The woman was taken to Wilcox Hospital, where she was treated and released.

According to police, the woman and a friend, age 52, were walking from Kukui Grove Center toward King Auto Center around 5:55 p.m. when the woman was struck.

Sleeping man awakened by gun-wielding assailant

Police are looking for a 56-year-old man who allegedly fired a shot at a man in his vehicle in Waipahu early Tuesday.

Police said a 43-year-old man was sleeping in the vehicle when he was confronted by the suspect, who was looking for a friend of the victim.

When the younger man responded that he didn't know where his friend was, the suspect fired a shot from a handgun. The bullet missed the victim but shattered the vehicle's window, police said.

The suspect fled and the victim later withdrew the complaint.

Big Island police looking for items stolen from boat

Big Island police want help in finding items stolen from a boat near Kawaihae Harbor.

A CB radio, amplifier, fishing gaff, tools and a large camouflage parachute were taken from the boat stored near Sharks Cove on May 4, police said.

Police ask that anyone with information about the whereabouts of the missing items call Officer Edward Lewis at 887-3082 or the Police Department's non-emergency line at 935-3311.
