Multiple stabbing leads to man's arrest on Maui

Maui authorities charged a 32-year-old man yesterday in an attack on a Kahului woman who was stabbed about nine times, police said.

Police said Tashii Farmer-Brown, who was also wanted for violating parole, was charged with second-degree attempted murder. He is to be arraigned today. His bail was set at $100,000.

Officers responded to a stabbing complaint at a Kahului home at 10:25 p.m. Monday and found a 30-year-old woman with an estimated nine wounds to her body, and what appeared to be defensive wounds to her left arm.

She identified the attacker as Farmer-Brown, an acquaintance, police said.

The woman was taken to Maui Memorial Medical Center, where she was treated and hospitalized overnight for observation, police said.

Police found and arrested Farmer at 12:49 a.m. yesterday.

California man, 69, rescued at Kauai's Moloaa Bay

A 69-year-old San Clemente, Calif., man was in critical condition after being rescued yesterday from Moloaa Bay on Kauai.

The man went swimming with a 73-year-old friend at 12:35 p.m. yesterday when the two got into trouble because of the strong current, a Kauai County news release said.

The two men were about 100 yards offshore when they tried to swim back to shore.

The older man made it back, and a bystander tried to help the other man but failed.

Fire rescue personnel brought the 69-year-old to shore using a rescue board and immediately started cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

Emergency medical technicians brought the man to Wilcox Memorial Hospital, where he was in critical condition.

Second time around gets counterfeit suspect nabbed

Police arrested a 27-year-old Waikiki man who allegedly tried to pass a fake $100 bill to a taxicab driver in Waikiki.

The man paid the 58-year-old driver with the counterfeit bill at 11 p.m. Monday, and the driver gave him change, police said.

Yesterday the taxi driver discovered the money was counterfeit. But while he was working yesterday morning, the same man flagged him down for a ride, police said.

The driver called police, who arrested the man at 1901 Kalakaua Ave. on suspicion of first-degree forgery, a $25,000 warrant and fourth-degree theft.
