Hawaii will receive $4.5 million to fight invasive plant species in the state and create more jobs, according to a news release from U.S. Sen. Daniel Inouye's office.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture is distributing the funding as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. The state will select projects on state and private lands.
Hawaii's native forests and flora are in danger of being lost because of invasive species, and the funding will help save the Hawaiian plants, Inouye and U.S. Sen. Daniel Akaka said in the release.
