Washington man drowns at Kauai North Shore beach
A 76-year-old man from Spokane, Wash., apparently drowned Friday while snorkeling at Tunnels Beach on Kauai's North Shore, according to a news release from the Kauai Fire Department.
David Grainger and his son were in the ocean at about 10:05 a.m. when Grainger complained of choking, the release said.
The victim was unconscious when Kauai County lifeguards brought him to shore. Efforts to revive him failed. He was pronounced dead at Wilcox Memorial Hospital.
Waipahu, Wahiawa men were victims in crashes
A man who died Sunday when the tractor-trailer truck he was driving overturned on the Ewa offramp from the westbound lanes of the H-1 freeway was identified by the city medical examiner as 51-year-old Russell Fox of Waipahu.
Police said speeding was involved in the 11:55 a.m. accident. Fox was not wearing a seat belt.
A 12-year-old boy who was a passenger in the truck was wearing a seat belt but was seriously injured.
A motorcyclist who died about an hour later in Kaaawa in a separate crash was identified as 49-year-old Mark Lamm of Wahiawa.
He and a 10-year-old girl, who was a passenger on the motorcycle, were ejected when the cycle collided with a pickup truck that made a left turn in front of them on Kamehameha Highway into a 7-Eleven, police said.
Lamm, who was not wearing a helmet, died at Castle Medical Center. The girl, who was wearing helmet, was taken to Castle in serious condition.
The deaths are the 26th and 27th traffic fatalities on Oahu this year compared with 15 at the same time last year.
