Alex Zamora and Tyson Seto-Mook, engineering students at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, won first place with a robot micromouse in the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers' Region 6 Central Area Spring Meeting and Micromouse Competition in Santa Cruz, Calif. UH teams took the top seven places in the maze category; the top three spots in construction and design; and first place in the student paper competition.
Emme White Seymour, a member of the Garden Club of Honolulu and president of the Center for Plant Conservation, received the Garden Club of America's achievement medal for outstanding contributions.
Planned Parenthood of Hawaii was awarded $60,000 by the Change Happens Foundation for family planning and sex education programs in Kailua-Kona on the Big Island.
