Ghialana Borges, a Kahuku High School senior, is the grand-prize winner of the 2009 Congressional Art Contest, “;Kaha Ki'i: An Artistic Discovery.”;
Baldwin High School Senior Tanner Morin took second for her charcoal drawing “;Tiny Inspiration,”; and Maui High School sophomore Lori Nishikawa, third, for her scratchboard artwork titled “;What to Do.”;
In June Borges' work, titled “;Reflections,”; will be displayed along a corridor that leads to the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C. It will represent Hawaii's 2nd Congressional District, according to U.S. Rep. Mazie Hirono. Borges and her art teacher, Sherril Balbirona, earned visits to Washington.
Morin's artwork will be displayed in Hirono's Washington office over the next year. Nishikawa's piece will hang in the congresswoman's Honolulu office during the same period.
