GALACTIC GROOVE

Jack's just out of this world

Jack Johnson has reached new heights.

Earlier this week, Mission Control gently woke astronauts from their night's sleep aboard the space shuttle Atlantis to the melodies of Johnson's hit, “;Upside Down.”;

It was at least the second time a Hawaii guy's voice has had that honor in outer space. In February 2008, Mission Control roused the crew aboard that Atlantis flight with a ukulele version of Bruddah Iz's “;Somewhere Over the Rainbow.”;

Spread that aloha around the world—and beyond.

DELISTING

It's a tough job ...

Craigslist, the freewheeling Internet classified site is turning its “;erotic services”; category into a “;adult services”; section. This is after law enforcement officials complained that it was merely a thinly veiled cover for prostitution.

The Website claims it will screen all ads before they are posted. How they plan to delve into that process remains to be seen.

HOMING IN

More Hawaiians living on the mainland

The latest Census figures confirm what many Hawaii residents already know: More native Hawaiians and other Pacific Islanders live on the U.S. mainland than in their native lands. California, with 282,000 native Hawaiians and other Pacific Islanders, had the largest such population of any state in July 2008, as well as the largest numeric increase (6,000) since July 2007.

Among U.S. counties, Clark County, Nev., home to Las Vegas, had the biggest numeric increase, as the number of people who identified themselves as native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islanders rose by 857 in one year.
