Student event centers on AIDS awareness

Life Foundation is sponsoring Island Roots, a free event for high school students, to recognize National Asian and Pacific Islander HIV/AIDS Awareness Day.
The event will run from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at Bishop Museum.
Featured will be Island 98.5 DJ Mento Mele, a slam poetry workshop by Kealoha, the play “;It Could Happen to You”; by the Kalihi-Palama Health Center, lunch, prizes and an “;HIV in Hawaii”; video presentation.
Life Foundation said it hopes to engage isle youth in the fight against AIDS and educate them on how to protect themselves from HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases.
