“;Mamma Mia!”; opened Tuesday at the Concert Hall, and though the Star-Bulletin's John Berger will review it next week, I couldn't resist mentioning how much I enjoyed the show. Following a brilliant escalation, it finishes with quite possibly the most entertaining curtain call in all of theater. By the end, the entire audience was on its feet, swaying, clapping, singing and cheering. Crowd favorites along the way included the “;Dancing Queen”; scene, a riotous exhibition of female bonding between three longtime friends, as well as the titillating older woman-younger man tease. Beyond the lighthearted comedy, the mother-daughter interaction before the wedding is deeply evocative. A dynamic cast—with a noteworthy performance from the young and talented Liana Hunt (Sophie Sheridan)—has come to town. Don't miss it ...

It looks like Honolulu could once again be the setting for a police procedural show, but Hawaii Film Commissioner Donne Dawson cautions that it's uncertain whether filming will actually take place here. The proposed Jerry Bruckheimer (”;CSI: Miami,”; “;Pearl Harbor”;) series, called “;Cooler Kings,”; revolves around a former Honolulu cop determined to avenge the death of his girlfriend, according to Variety. His efforts lead him to a group of detectives who want to eliminate “;the seedy side of Paradise.”; The good news is that Bruckheimer loves Hawaii, but a lot of pieces need to fall into place. If it gets picked up, the tentative launch is slated for next spring or summer on A&E, the home of the (mostly) locally filmed “;Dog the Bounty Hunter”; ...

Hawaii filmmaker Gerard Elmore reports that some unsold “;All For Melissa”; DVDs are available on the cheap via his Web site: http://www.allformelissa.com/ store.html. Good news: Revenue will support his “;struggling artist fund.”; But, the other interesting tidbit is that the independent film shot on Oahu was picked up (pirated?) by Hulu, and has garnered about 100,000 views.
