Man charged in beating death
An Oahu grand jury returned an indictment charging a 44-year-old Maili man with second-degree murder for Friday's bludgeoning death of his estranged wife's boyfriend.
Paul Kaeo remains in custody in lieu of $1 million bail.
Police said Kaeo beat Charles Kahumoku with a 2-foot-long metal rod last Friday when Kahumoku went to pick up Kaeo's wife, Debbie, at Kaeo's Hakeakea Street home.
The Honolulu medical examiner said Kahumoku, 49, died from blunt force trauma. He was sitting in his truck when he was attacked.
Debbie Kaeo was at the home visiting her husband and her brother for dinner, police said.
Alleged abductor was family friend
A man accused of abducting a 13-year-girl who was walking to school last week is the girl's hanai uncle, a friend of the family, said Adrian Dhakhwa, deputy prosecutor.
An Oahu grand jury returned an indictment yesterday charging Asoailao Lealai, 44, with kidnapping and attempted third-degree sexual assault.
Police said Lealai forced the girl into his sport utility vehicle last Thursday after she refused his offer of a ride and tried to kiss her before the girl escaped.
Lealai remains in custody unable to post $75,000 bail.
