Extra volleyball on the plate
POSTED: Tuesday, May 12, 2009
A matchup like this rarely happens.
When Hawaii Baptist (16-1) won the Division II boys volleyball battle in the Interscholastic League of Honolulu, there was a two-week wait until the next match—this week's state tournament.
Punahou (14-1), which won ILH Division I, faced the same risk of mundane preparation. So, coach Rick Tune contacted HBA coach Teoni Obrey and the two are playing an exhibition match tonight at Punahou's Hemmeter Fieldhouse.
The best-of-5 match begins at 6 p.m.
HBA has been No. 1 in the Star-Bulletin Boys Volleyball Top 10 for two weeks. The No. 2 team is Punahou, which defeated Hawaii Baptist in the first round of ILH play.
HBA has wins over Kamehameha, Mid-Pacific and 'Iolani. No Division II state champion has finished the season at No. 1 in the Star-Bulletin Top 10.
