4 boys beat and rob teen; police arrest 3 suspects
Four boys punched and kicked a 17-year-old boy on Saturday after demanding he empty his pockets at a bus stop in Waipahu, police said.
The group fled after taking the victim's cap and shoes.
The robbery started at about 11:40 p.m. when the group approached the 17-year-old, who was sitting alone at a bus stop, police said. The group attacked the boy as he tried to walk away.
Through a police lineup, officers identified three of the boys—ages 13, 15 and 16—while a fourth teen, about 17 years old, remained unidentified. Police arrested the boys on suspicion of second-degree robbery. The victim declined medical treatment.
Man nabbed by officer in attempt to steal a TV
A Honolulu police officer foiled a 45-year-old Makiki man's alleged attempt to carry a TV out of Wal-Mart in Waipahu.
Authorities charged Nalei Aki, 45, yesterday with second-degree theft in connection with the crime. He was being held on $15,000 bail.
At about 10 p.m. Friday the officer was patrolling the area when he saw Aki carry the TV out the store's fire exit, police said. Police caught Aki, and a store manager identified the TV as store property.
Teenager allegedly breaks into apartment, takes purse
Police booked a 16-year-old boy on suspicion of first-degree burglary after he allegedly broke into a Makiki apartment Friday and stole a 50-year-old woman's purse.
At about 10:10 p.m. the victim's son saw the teen going through the purse in the parking lot and tried to hold him, police said. The teen dropped the purse and ran but was later arrested.
Towels in dryer spark fire in hotel laundry room
Towels caused a small fire Thursday night in a dryer in the basement laundry room of the Queen Kapiolani Hotel in Waikiki, Honolulu Fire Department officials said.
The fire and heat damage were limited to the basement laundry room. The lobby and a few floors of the hotel had to be evacuated.
