Slaying suspect reportedly spoke of killing his wife's boyfriend
Paul Kaeo repeatedly told his brother-in-law that if he ever were to see his wife and her boyfriend together, he would kill the man, according to court documents released yesterday.
Shortly before 9:40 p.m. Friday, Kaeo, 44, beat his wife's boyfriend to death with a metal rod in front of Kaeo's house in Maili, the documents said.
Authorities charged Kaeo yesterday with second-degree murder. He was being held on $1 million bail.
Police said Charles Kahumoku, 49, of Honolulu was attacked after he drove up to Kaeo's Hakeakea Street home to pick up Kaeo's wife, Debbie.
She had separated from her husband but was visiting him and her brother for dinner that night.
As his wife walked to Kahumoku's truck, Kaeo pushed her down and beat Kahumoku with a 2-foot metal rod, police said.
Emergency responders found Kahumoku in the truck with injuries to his face, neck and ribs. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Kaeo fled but was arrested the next day at his cousin's house in Waianae.
Kaeo, who has four sexual assault convictions and an abuse conviction dating to 2002, is scheduled to appear in District Court this morning.
