Police arrested a 44-year-old Waianae man yesterday in a beating death of a 49-year-old man in Maili Friday night.

A 49 year old man is dead is after suspect Paul Kaeo repeatedly battered the victim with an iron bar.

The suspect was arrested at about 11 a.m. yesterday on Kawili Street in Waianae on suspicion of second-degree murder.

Police said the attack occurred about 9:40 p.m. Friday in a pickup truck fronting the suspect's home on Hakeakea Street in Maili. The suspect is the husband of the victim's cousin, police said.

Responding to a report of an assault, emergency responders found the victim unconscious in the truck, wounded by strikes from a blunt object. He died at the Waianae Coast Comprehensive Health Center.

The suspect had already fled the scene.

Police were investigating the cause of the fight and said there was a witness to the beating. A metal pipe believed to be the weapon was recovered at the scene.
