The water Warriors won a shootout in Waipio.

Unseeded Kamehameha handed Roosevelt its first loss of the regular season, 14-11, in the semifinals of the Local Motion/HHSAA Girls Water Polo State Championship at Veterans Memorial Aquatic Center last night.

The Warriors improved to 6-4 and advanced to today's title game against Interscholastic League of Honolulu rival Punahou. Roosevelt, the OIA champion, fell to 15-1, and plays Kahuku for third place.

Nanea Fujiyama and Kiley Doane led the Warriors with four goals each, and Brittney Garrigam added three. Taesha-Marie Keola led Roosevelt with six goals.

One night after Rachel Gomes' late goal in double overtime lifted Roosevelt over Kamehameha-Hawaii, the Rough Riders could not repeat the feat against the Kapalama Warriors.

The Warriors led 7-4 at the half behind a balanced scoring attack that included two goals by Fujiyama, Doane and Garrigam.

After the half, Gomes scored to bring Roosevelt within a goal at 9-8, but Fujiyama scored two goals (one on a penalty shot) within the last 1:18 in the third quarter to stretch Kamehameha's lead to 11-8 entering the fourth frame, and the Rough Riders could not close the gap.

Punahou 16, Kahuku 6

Brailey Hirose-Hulbert was nearly unstoppable in front of the goal, scoring five goals to lead the Buffanblu past the Red Raiders 16-6.

Hirose-Hulbert overpowered Kahuku defenders inside and the Buffanblu defense parlayed steals into counterattack goals to overwhelm the OIA runner-up Red Raiders, who fell to 12-3.
