Roosevelt survives in 2 overtimes

Rachel Gomes scored with 2 minutes, 43 seconds left in the second overtime to lift No. 2 Roosevelt over Kamehameha-Hawaii 9-8 in a quarterfinal of the Local Motion/HHSAA Water Polo State Championship at Veterans Memorial Aquatic Center.

The Rough Riders today face unseeded Kamehameha, which upset third-seeded Lahainaluna 11-4. Nanea Fujiyama scored four goals to lead the Warriors.
In another quarterfinal, defending champion Punahou jumped out to a 6-1 lead after the first quarter en route to a 16-4 win over Kalani. Brailey Hirose-Hulbert scored twice in the opening period.
The Buffanblu will face Kahuku in tonight's first semifinal. The Red Raiders edged Hilo 5-4 on Alex Shea's goal with 14 seconds left.
The quarterfinal between Roosevelt and Kamehameha-Hawaii had five ties. Trailing 8-6, the Rough Riders held the Warriors scoreless in the fourth while getting two goals by Hoku Keola to send the contest into sudden-death overtime.
Gomes won it for Roosevelt with her second goal.
