Warriors open in states today

Kamehameha leads a host of highly-ranked teams that open play today in the Division I portion of the Wally Yonamine/HHSAA State Baseball Championships.

The Warriors (33-9 overall) are No. 3 in the Star-Bulletin Baseball Top 10, but lost to 'Iolani in the Interscholastic League of Honolulu final. The Warriors play eighth-ranked Waiakea today, 2 p.m., at Les Murakami Stadium. Waiakea (also nicknamed Warriors) is the runner-up from the Big Island Interscholastic Federation.

The Division II baseball tournament will be played at Hans L'Orange Park through Friday. Top-seeded Kauai, the defending champion, plays tomorrow at 4:30 p.m. against today's Radford-Honokaa winner.

State tennis starts today

Matthew Westmoreland of Island Pacific Academy is the top seed in the boys division of the Carlsmith Ball/HHSAA State Tennis Championships today at Central Oahu Regional Park.

Westmoreland is one of three Interscholastic League of Honolulu players seeded among the top four. Jared Spiker (Kalani) is No. 2, followed by Punahou's Doug Ho and Kevin Caulfield.

Punahou's Kristin Lim is the No. 1 seed in the girls competition.

Punahou to defend water polo title

Defending champ Punahou leads the field in the Local Motion/HHSAA Girls Water Polo State Championships. Matches begin today at 3:15 p.m., at Veterans Memorial Aquatic Center.

» Tyler Whitener, Radford: took firsts in the 100 and 400 and second in the 200, and was on two first-place relays in leading the Lady Rams to the OIA team title. The 4x100 relay ran a meet record 49.7 seconds
