'Dog' to discuss drug treatment

A&E's Town Hall Meeting on the subject of drug treatment and recovery takes place 6:30 to 8 p.m. today at Word of Life, 544 Queen St.

Similar meetings have been held across the country as a part of A&E's grass-roots movement in support of the Recovery Project, designed to break the stigma of addiction by raising awareness of addiction as a treatable disease.

Panelists include Duane “;Dog”; Chapman and Beth Chapman from A&E's “;Dog the Bounty Hunter”;; Jeff VanVonderen of A&E's Emmy-nominated “;Intervention”;; Alan Johnson, CEO of Hina Mauka, one of the largest drug and alcohol treatment centers in Hawaii; and Delorese Malulani Gregoire, founding director of Winners Camp.

Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis. Light refreshments will be served. Parents are asked to use discretion; the content of this meeting is intended for mature audiences. No photos or video will be permitted, and there will be no autographs. This event will be filmed for television, and all in attendance consent to have their images broadcast by A&E, Time Warner Cable and all other media.

» “;Lauhala Weaving 101”;: ”;Auntie Sheila”; Barnhart teaches how to prepare the hala leaves for weaving and demonstrates the process of making a bookmark. At 6:30 p.m. May 19. For ages 12 and older.

» “;Keeping Current: What's Happening at the James Campbell National Wildlife Refuge?”;: Mike Silbernagle and David Ellis present the latest information about the refuge. Participants learn how native and migratory birds raise their young. At 6:30 p.m. May 26. For ages 12 and older.
