The Public Schools of Hawaii Foundation's annual fundraiser/banquet, called Kulia I Ka Nu'u (”;Strive for the Highest”;), honored the following: KTA Super Stores received the corporate award; Sam Choy, Charles Higa and Marilyn Moniz-Kahoohanohano, individual awards; Betty Brask (Pukalani Elementary School), Dawn Kodama-Nii (Wilson Elementary School), Marlene Stark (Kapolei High School), the Tom Adams Award; Maemae Elementary's Gifted/Talented Program Team, the Francis Hatanaka Award.

The Masayuki Tokioka Excellence in School Leadership Awards went to Elynne Chung (Pearl Harbor Kai Elementary School); Patricia Dang (Kapalama School); Janice Espiritu (Kaunakakai Elementary School); Lanelle Hibbs (Kailua Elementary School); Gwendolyn Lee (Kauluwela Elementary School); Karen Liu (King Kaumualii Elementary School); Carmilita Minami (Waikele Elementary School); Mitchell Otani (Kaneohe Elementary School); Carol Petersen (Mililani Mauka Elementary School); Nelson Shigeta (Makaha Elementary School); Stanley Tamashiro (Ewa Elementary School); and Rene Yamafuji (Pomaikai Elementary School).
