Fatal Makiki blaze labeled arson

The Makiki Heights fire that killed two people last Thursday was arson, according to an investigation by the Honolulu Fire Department.

The Medical Examiner's Office released the identities yesterday of the two badly burned bodies. Larry Fair, 58, and Khristy Sasaki, 48, both died of smoke inhalation, according to the office.

Their bodies were found in two of the five bedrooms of the two-story house at 2069 Mauna Place just above Roosevelt High School. Three people, including owner H.R.H. Fleur, and two dogs escaped the 12:20 a.m. fire.

The Fire Department placed the loss at $500,000 for the building and $50,000 for its contents.

Bones found inside tree not human

The city Medical Examiner's Office said bones contained in two dozen plastic bags were not human.

The bags were found Friday by city workers who were cutting a tree on 1335 Wilder Ave. The bags were hidden inside the trunk of the tree.

Police arrest bank robbery suspect

A man was arrested about 11:15 a.m. yesterday at the McCully Shopping Center for allegedly robbing Central Pacific Bank at 1338 S. Beretania St. on April 17.
