Hot dogs fans who love Spam will cheer

Hormel Foods is combining “;America's favorite canned meat and a favorite at summer BBQs and ballparks”;: Spam Hot Dogs. The product was launched at Saturday's Waikiki Spam Jam Festival at Jimmy Buffett's Margaritaville booth, and is being sold exclusively in Hawaii supermarkets in 12-ounce packages.

Enjoy some ice cream for only 31 cents

Baskin-Robbins is holding its third annual 31 Cent Scoop Night from 5 to 10 p.m. today. During the event, customers pay just 31 cents for a scoop of ice cream.

Profits from the national program includes a $100,000 donation to the National Volunteer Fire Council's National Junior Firefighter Program. Last year the chain sold more than 4 million scoops during the event.

KCC team takes top culinary honor

Kapiolani Community College's Junior American Culinary Federation Competition Team took first place in the Western Regional Culinary Competition earlier this month, the first time a Hawaii team has captured the top prize.

The team flawlessly performed advanced culinary skills in the contest held in Seattle earlier this month.

The group will head out to Florida in July for the national competition.

Eat good grinds while helping school

Star of the Sea Church and Schools is hosting its 4th annual East Honolulu Food Festival Saturday.

“;Moonlight Beach Party”; runs 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the school and features dishes from 20 local restaurants, including Michel's at the Colony Surf, Ruth's Chris, Therapy, Sergio's, JJ's French Bistro and Top of Waikiki. The Gregg Hammer Band and Beach 5 will provide entertainment. There will also be a silent auction.

Tickets are $60 in advance, $70 at the door, and $25 for children. Proceeds benefit school programs. Call 734-0396.

Maui Onion Fest has strong cast

The Maui Onion Festival, featuring chef demonstrations, a Maui onion recipe contest, Maui onion pairing dinner, food and food product booths and raw Maui onion eating contest, runs 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday at Whaler's Village in Kaanapali.

Participating chefs this year are Colin Nishida of Side Street Inn, Russell Siu of 3660 on the Rise, Patrick Callarec of Chez Paul in Olowalu, James McDonald of Pacific'O and IO restaurants in Lahaina and David Paul of David Paul's Island Grill in Lahaina.

Booths include food, produce and products from the Maui Onion Growers Association, Sansei Seafood Restaurant & Sushi Bar, Roy's Restaurant, and Grown on Maui Farmer's Market.

The pairing dinner features Maui onion-inspired dishes paired with local beers from Maui Brewing Co. Call 667-6636.

Outback starts '15 under $15 menu'

Outback Steakhouse is running a new “;15 under $15 menu,”; with prices starting at $9.95.

Selections include grilled chicken, shrimp and chicken pasta, a chowder and salad combo, various ground steak burgers and salads.

The promotion also features a prize drawing for a trip to Sydney.

Outback locations are in Hawaii Kai, Waikiki, Waipio, Kapolei and Lahaina and Kihei on Maui.
