Officer says woman rushed him

The Honolulu police officer who shot a homeless woman earlier this month said the woman rushed him and another officer with a metal skewer and metal pipe.
“;She was yelling, screaming, waving her weapons around, making slashing and stabbing motions toward the officers,”; said Officer Kevin Takehara.
Police said Takehara fired two shots at Yvonne Arsisto. One shot hit her in the abdomen.
Arsisto, 45, apparently still recovering from her injury, walked into Honolulu District Court for her preliminary hearing yesterday with the assistance of a walker. Judge Edwin Nacino ordered her to stand trial in state court on four counts of first-degree terroristic threatening.
Police say Arsisto threatened three police officers and a private security officer with a foot-long metal skewer and a metal pipe April 3 in front of a sign-making business at King Street and Kalakaua Avenue.
Arsisto spent 22 days in the hospital before she was released and charged. She is now at Oahu Community Correctional Center, unable to post $40,000 bail.
Richard Laureano said he was doing a security check at 1517 S. King St. at about 2 a.m. when he encountered Arsisto at the front door of the business. He said she was holding the two metal objects.
Laureano said Arsisto yelled at him to get away. He said he did not want to find out whether she was dangerous, so he went around the corner and called his security company to notify police.
