Heavyweight amenities offered at salon for men

Knockouts Haircuts for Men is coming to Hawaii.
Hawaii development rights for the boxing- and MMA-themed men's salon were recently purchased by former UPS Store franchisees John and Ivy Miyatake for undisclosed terms.
The Texas-based chain features “;Knockout Girls”; stylists, licensed massage therapists and boxing-ring decor, as well as flat-screen TVs at each station. Each customer gets the TV remote during service—because we all know how important that is.
Knockouts founder Tom Friday was a Golden Gloves boxer in his youth, hence the theme. He helped weave boxing terms through service descriptions on the Web site.
Knockouts does haircuts, styling, color and other grooming services—think “;uni-brow”; repair, “;guy-brow”; shaping and miniature facials. It also offers paraffin hand treatments that could make a guy want to avoid using tools for a while, manicures and, yes, spa pedicures.
It also offers a massage menu.
“;Our environment is very testosterone-geared,”; said co-founder Karin Friday.
“;The girls are there to make the environment enjoyable and fun, but they're very professional and upscale,”; and all are licensed, she said.
Prices for Hawaii Knockouts have not been set, but a “;Heavyweight”; service, including a haircut, two shampoos, a scalp massage and a hot face towel could range from $30 to $40, she said.
The Fridays honeymooned in Hawaii 27 years ago and had not been back, but when approached by the Miyatakes, decided to fly in earlier this month to meet with them and “;do their training personally,”; Karin said.
“;We don't normally do that, but this was a little bit special,”; she chuckled.
The Miyatakes sold their UPS Stores “;to take a break,”; when their children were infants, but now, ready to jump back into the business ring, John thought the concept was “;genius,”; he said.
Location scouting for a 1,200- to 1,500-square-foot space is under way, and Miyatake said he is also looking for additional franchisees, as he hopes to open as many as three stores on Oahu simultaneously, perhaps by August or September.
