The Valley Isle takes center stage
The weekly series “;Local Ventures”; celebrates the Valley Isle's sustainable initiatives at 10:30 p.m. tomorrow on KGMB9, with a special episode in recognition of Earth Day.
The episode starts with a view from atop the West Maui mountains at Kaheawa Wind Farm, which provides 9 percent of Maui's power during peak hours to Maui Lavender Co., the state's only 100 percent organic lavender farm. The producers also head to Maui Cattle Co., which focuses on humane handling of beef cattle raised without growth hormones, pesticides or antibiotics.
The last stop is Maui Ocean Center, a $20 million marine park dedicated to fostering “;understanding, wonder, and respect for Hawaii's marine life.”;
The episode will repeat on www.PacificNetwork.tv. Edgy Lee is the executive producer with Kim Gennaula and Malia Mattoch McManus as hosts.
Heed Waikiki traffic
Sheryl Crow and Spam is a combination that doesn't come to mind frequently, but one that will affect traffic in the Waikiki area later today.
Concert promoter Tom Moffatt wanted to alert Crow concertgoers that getting to the Waikiki Shell might be slow going because of the 7th annual Spam Jam happening along Kalakaua Avenue between 4 and 10 p.m.
Moffatt suggests that those going to the 7:30 p.m. concert at the Shell, take an alternate route to the show, like traveling down Kapahulu or Monsarrat avenues.
