Waianae woman identified as accident victim

The city medical examiner has identified a 28-year-old Waianae woman who died Tuesday after the car she was driving went off an embankment near Yokohama Bay as Eitiline Love.

The cause of her death is being investigated. Police said she may have been speeding.

Love's vehicle was headed toward town on Farrington Highway when it approached a left roadway curve, veered right, struck the end of a guardrail, went off a cliff and tumbled onto boulders below, police said.

Love's death was the 23rd traffic fatality on Oahu this year, compared with 13 for the same period last year.

Woman shot by officer arrested after hospital stay

A 45-year-old homeless woman Tasered and shot by police was arrested yesterday upon her release from the hospital.

Police held the woman on suspicion of four counts of first-degree terroristic threatening.

Three officers responded just before 2 p.m. April 3 to the report of a woman acting erratically near South King Street and Kalakaua Avenue.

A witness said at least six officers surrounded her as she held a metal skewer and rod.

“;Drop your weapon,”; the police told her, according to the witness.

She refused and lunged at an officer, police said. One officer fired a Taser, and another fired his pistol twice, hitting her once in the abdomen.

The woman was taken in critical condition to the Queen's Medical Center. From there, police took her to the cellblock yesterday.

The officer who shot her was placed on administrative leave, as is customary, but has returned to full duty, a police spokeswoman said. Internal Affairs is continuing its investigation.

Bone fragment is from missing spear fisherman

A bone fragment found in waters off Ali'i Drive in Kailua-Kona is from missing spearfisherman Paolo Dominici of San Francisco, DNA tests have confirmed.

Hawaii County police said they are continuing the investigation, as further forensic tests are outstanding.

Acting Lt. Charles Adams said damage to Dominici's wetsuit appears to be consistent with a boating accident, and police do not suspect foul play.

Dominici, the 49-year-old owner of Bacco Ristorante Italiano in San Francisco, went spearfishing with a friend offshore of the Kona Makai Condominiums on Ali'i Drive April 11, police said. He was reported missing after he failed to return to shore.

Witnesses reported seeing a boat in the area where Dominici was believed to have been diving, according to police. Dominici may have been run over by a boat, police said.
