Rainbow Wahine banquet May 4

The postseason banquet for the Hawaii women's basketball team is set for May 4 at The Willows restaurant.

The public may attend for $50 per person, and may sponsor a Rainbow Wahine player for another $25.

No host cocktails begin at 6 p.m. with dinner at 6:30.

UH's Lajola is tennis player of week

Hawaii's Dennis Lajola is the Western Athletic Conference player of the week for the second time this season.

Lajola led the Rainbow Warriors to a 2-2 record last week that helped secure the third seed in the WAC Championships at UH starting tomorrow.

He finished 3-1 in singles for the week.

Victorino wins Gehrig Award

Shane Victorino of Maui, a World Series champion with the Philadelphia Phillies last season, has won the Lou Gehrig Memorial Award, sponsored by the Phi Delta Theta International Fraternity in Ohio.

The award will be presented to Victorino on July 4 at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia.

The award is given to the Major League Baseball player who best exemplifies the giving character of Hall of Famer Gehrig.

Grand Canyon wins PacWest golf

Grand Canyon shot a final-round 290 to win the Hawaiian Airlines Pacific West Conference Men's Golf Championship yesterday at Antioch, Calif.

The Antelopes held off Hawaii-Hilo for a six-stroke victory.

Academy of Art's Matthew Garcia won a three-way, single-hole playoff to win medalist honors.

Garcia, Cameron Crawford of Dixie State and Logan Goulding of Hawaii-Hilo each finished with three-round totals of 215, forcing the playoff.

Hawaii Pacific placed fourth, Brigham Young-Hawaii took sixth and Chaminade finished in last place in the eight-team tournament.
