British expert at Mariposa
Mariposa Restaurant is hosting a wine tasting Monday with British expert Merrick Dowson, featuring 2007 Rhone, Burgundy and California Cult wines.
The lineup: Paul Autard, three Cuvees of Chateauneuf du Papes with scores above 95 to 98; Michelot & Nicolas Potel Grand Cru, two Burgundy wines rarely available in Hawaii; Kapcsandy Wine from California; and 20 other wines. Appetizers will also be served.
The tasting will run 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the restaurant, located in Neiman Marcus Ala Moana. Cost is $75. Space is limited; go to R. Field at Foodland Beretania or Kailua to reserve a spot.

Fort Street Mall hosts green event
A Green Market, featuring food booths, worm composting, recycled furniture and green business booths, will be open 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. today at Fort Street Mall to celebrate Earth Day.
Food booths include Whole Foods, Ma'o Farms, Land of Organica, Waialua Coffee and Hawaii Island X.

Stores offer sales for Earth Day
Down to Earth stores will celebrate Earth Day with a 30 percent sale and a switch to biodegradable checkout shopping bags, 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. today.
The sale applies to some 50 items, including bulk purchases and “;green”; household cleaners.
Down to Earth has locations in Honolulu, Kailua, Pearlridge and Kahului.
'Moonlight Magic' to benefit literacy
Read to Me International Foundation will honor Hawaii Pizza Hut at its “;Moonlight Magic”; fundraiser on May 2. The event will include wine tasting, pupus and a silent auction of such items as fine wines and a Mini Cooper.
Hawaii Pizza Hut has raised more than $3 million for Hawaii literacy programs with its “;Carryout for Literacy”; campaign.
“;Moonlight Magic”; will run 6 to 8 p.m. at Kapiolani Community College's Ohia Dining Hall. Tickets are $100. Call 955-7600.
Moiliili center to hold fundraiser
Moiliili Community Center will hold its annual dinner and silent auction fundraiser at Kapiolani Community College's Ohia Dining Hall on May 9.
The event, held from 5:30 to 9 p.m., will feature a buffet, entertainment and boutique sales with homemade baked goods and jellies and Mother's Day baskets.

Kau coffee ranks in global top 10
Kailiawa Coffee Farm in Kau on the Big Island placed seventh in the international finals of the Specialty Coffee Association of America's 2009 Roasters Guild Coffee of the Year Cupping Competition, held last week in Atlanta.
The farm is operated by Thomas “;Bull”; and Jaime Kailiawa.
Virmax of Columbia took first place.
The coffee is being served in Honolulu at Alan Wong's Restaurant.
Share a recipe with Don Ho's
Don Ho's Island Grill wants your favorite soup recipe for its monthly contest. The winning recipe will be featured on its menu in May.
