Circuit Judge Steven Alm did not need much persuading to revoke bail for the two men accused in last month's shooting death in Chinatown.

Bail for Iosefa Meafua Pasene, 21, and Zorro Ramon Rye, 24, was $1 million each. They are accused of gunning down 35-year-old Joseph Maululu Peneueta March 28 in what police said was part of a turf war among drug dealers.

After a short hearing yesterday, Alm granted the state's request to order Pasene and Rye held in custody without the opportunity for bail pending their trial for second-degree murder.

At the time of the shooting, Pasene and Rye were free on bail for other crimes.

Honolulu police released Pasene from custody three hours before the shooting after he posted $11,000 bail for drug possession.

Rye was free on $35,000 bail pending his sentencing for Class A felony drug promotion. He pleaded guilty in November and was supposed to be sentenced in January.

He was free on bail because Alm postponed sentencing three times to give Rye the opportunity for drug treatment.
