» Drill Team Hawaii, a precision dance team formed and directed by Penny Young in Honolulu, won 44 awards at the 15th annual New York City Dance Alliance Competition and Dance Clinics in Santa Clara, Calif. The awards included the highly coveted Critics' Choice Award, won by the senior team.

Drill Team Hawaii was represented by 83 girls ages 5 to 18, who competed with about 1,000 girls from other Western states.

» The 2009 Outstanding Male and Female Volunteers of the 43rd Annual Mayor's Senior Recognition Program are Charles Clark and Michiko Motooka. Clark was nominated by the State Executive on Aging Senior Medicare Patrol and Motooka was nominated by Project Dana and Moiliili Hongwanji Mission.

Akamai Living Award winners are Lawrence Morisako, Victorio Macatumbas, Serafina Gangemi Smith and Antonio Garcia.
