2 people hurt in single-car accident

A woman was critically injured and a man sustained serious injuries yesterday in a single-car crash on the North Shore, officials said.

Bryan Cheplic, spokesman for the Honolulu Emergency Services Department, said the two people, both in their 20s, were taken to a local hospital. The woman's condition was later upgraded to serious.

The woman was heading toward Haleiwa when she lost control on Kamehameha Highway before Weed Circle, said Honolulu Fire Department spokesman Capt. Earle Kealoha. Firefighters responded to the 2:18 p.m. crash and pulled the man and woman out of the car.

Police closed Kamehameha Highway in the Honolulu-bound direction near the crash. Traffic was rerouted through Weed Circle.
