Jack Jeffrey, a recently retired biological program manager at Hakalau Forest National Wildlife Refuge on the Big Island, was one of 18 recipients of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service's 2008 Recovery Champion award.
He led a restoration team that planted hundreds of thousands of native koa trees and tens of thousands of other native, threatened and endangered plants.
The Royal Hawaiian hotel gave $70,000 to the Rehabilitation Hospital of the Pacific Foundation from proceeds raised during its recent grand-reopening gala.
Moana Surfrider, a Westin Resort & Spa, named Brad Doell as director of sales and marketing.
