Ueoka named All-WCC

Santa Clara sophomore women's golfer Miki Ueoka (Kauai '07) was named first team All-West Coast Conference yesterday.

Ueoka, who was 21st after the first round of the WCC Championships, finished tied for second by the end of the tournament to set the school record for the highest finish in the tournament. She was named the conference's player of the month in February and March after winning consecutive tournaments.

She won the Fresno State Golf Classic in February with rounds of 68 and 69, posting the two lowest scores ever shot by a Santa Clara women's golfer.

Aona makes connection

East Carolina junior Cristen Aona (Punahou '06) hit a walk-off home run in the bottom of the seventh inning to give the Pirates a 3-1 win over N.C. State on Wednesday afternoon in Greenville, S.C.

Aona's home run, her third in the last four games, helped the Pirates (30-11) reach 30 wins for the sixth straight season.

Aona is 7-for-14 with three homers, five runs and nine RBIs during East Carolina's recent four-game winning streak.

Baseball

» Brigham Young senior first baseman Kasey Ko (Punahou '05) drew five walks in nine plate appearances, but the Cougars lost two games to Oregon State on Monday and Tuesday. Ko also singled and scored a run in the two games and is hitting .310 with 19 RBIs this season.
» Claremont-Mudd-Scripps junior Travis Nishioka ('Iolani '06) went 4-for-5 with two doubles and three RBIs as the Stags defeated Occidental (Calif.) 12-8 to earn a doubleheader split on Saturday. Nishioka, Steve Dannaway (Punahou '06) and Andrew Blomberg (Moanalua '05) each had a hit in a 3-2 loss in the first game.
» Colorado School of Mines sophomore Nick Wong (Roosevelt '07) singled and drove in a run, but the Orediggers were routed by No. 3 Mesa State 20-3 on Saturday.
» Northwestern freshman Paul Snieder (Punahou '08) went 2-for-5 with a triple, drove in three runs and scored twice in a 15-6 win over Trinity International on Tuesday.
» Pacific (Ore.) junior Brandon Kon (Castle '06) singled and scored two-runs in a pinch-hitting role as the Boxers defeated Corban 11-9 in the first game of an eventual doubleheader sweep on Tuesday.
» Willamette senior Kelsey Nakata (Mililani '05) allowed three runs on four hits in six innings while striking out two as the Bearcats defeated Puget Sound 6-5 on Friday. Jarvis Nohara ('Iolani '06) pitched 1 1/3 innings of shutout relief and Doug Cox (Kalaheo '06) went 1-for-2 with a run scored for the Loggers.

» University of Rochester (N.Y.) junior Brandon Isobe (Punahou '06) finished sixth overall at the Mid-Atlantic Regionals at the Hershey Country Club in Hershey, Pa., on April 6. Isobe shot 79-74-153 to finish four strokes off the lead. He was named the Liberty League Conference golfer of the week for his efforts.
» Pacific (Ore.) sophomore Max Bonk (Hawaii Prep '07) shot a 76 to win his sixth tournament of the spring in Kennewick, Wash., on Saturday.

» Claremont-Mudd-Scripps freshman Brittany Isobe (Punahou '08) shot 77 in a dual match against the NAIA No. 2-ranked California Baptist University at Empire Lake in Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., on Monday.

Softball

» California sophomore Sanoe Kekahuna (Baldwin '07) hit a solo home run in the Bears' 8-6 victory over Stanford on Sunday to win the series.
» New Mexico State sophomore Hoku Nohara (Kamehameha '07) and freshman Shaleese Javillo (Kamehameha '08) hit home runs as the Aggies pounded San Jose State 16-7 on Saturday to complete a four-game sweep. Javillo drove in three runs in the game while Nohara went 6-for-12 in the series and homered twice.
» Eastern Kentucky junior Shyenne Hussey (Kailua '06) hit her team-leading fifth home run of the season in a 9-1 loss to Jacksonville State on Saturday.
» Mississippi State freshman Kaili Smith (Kapolei '08) went 2-for-6 with a walk as the Bulldogs split a doubleheader against No. 6 Georgia on Wednesday.

» Occidental (Calif.) sophomore Kara Nickle (Kamehameha '07) scored six goals in a 13-12 overtime loss to California Lutheran, which took over the No. 1 ranking from the Tigers in the latest NCAA Division III poll.
» Siena (N.Y.) senior Lauren Garrigan (Kamehameha '05) was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference offensive player of the week on April 7. She won the honor for the second time this season after finishing with 16 goals and eight assists in four games. She scored 10 goals in two games on Saturday as the Saints beat Villanova 9-8 and lost to Iona 17-16 in double overtime.
» Pacific (Calif.) sophomore Dara Tawarahara ('Iolani '07) scored two goals in an 8-7 loss to Sonoma State in the Tigers' final home game of the season on Tuesday.
