Eco-designing

If you're looking for a new look for your home, Designer for a Day, an interior design firm owned by Jean Wall and Joan Robinson-Whitaker, redecorates using furniture and accessories you already have. “;It just makes sense in this economy,”; said Robinson-Whitaker. She also noted that recycling furniture eases the load on landfills. The couches in the room above were taken from another room and dressed up with slip covers for an updated look. Earth day, every day

Here are some home happenings in honor of Earth Day, officially Wednesday.

 

Thursday

Sustainable living workshop, 6 to 9 p.m.
Design Within Reach, Ala Moana Center

Rhonda Goyke of the Hawaii Chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council and architecture firm Green Sand Inc. will be speaking about sustainable design and initiatives. Topics to be covered include water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection and indoor environmental quality for the home. Pupu and drinks will be served.

This inaugural eco-friendly event, sponsored by Social Wahines, Pacific Edge Magazine, Flash & Matty and Fashionista's Market coincides with the launch of Pacific Edge Magazine's Green Issue. Eco-friendly vendors include Red Pineapple, Lush, Vanpool Hawaii, Body Wraps by the Sea, Hinu Jewelry, Allure Hair Studio and Day Spa, and more. Complimentary cocktails will be provided by Kai Vodka and Barefoot Wine & Bubbly. Best of all, a portion of the proceeds from this event will benefit The Nature Conservancy.
