Isle Guard back from Philippines

Thirty soldiers from the Hawaii Army National Guard's 29th Infantry Brigade Combat Team returned yesterday from the Philippines, where they spent six months providing security for humanitarian projects.

Hawaii's citizen soldiers were assigned to the Joint Special Operations Task Force-Philippines, which has been operating since January 2002.

While in the southern Philippines, the Hawaii Guardsmen provided security for engineering, medical support and community outreach projects such as improving schools, hospitals, wells and roads.

Man jailed for urinating on woman

A 28-year-old man accused of urinating on a woman aboard a commercial flight to Honolulu was sentenced yesterday to 21 days in prison, according to a U.S. Attorney's Office news release.

Jerome Kenneth Kingzio, of Saipan, was sentenced by U.S. Magistrate Judge Leslie Kobayashi after he pleaded guilty to assaulting a fellow passenger aboard a March 21 flight from Los Angeles.

According to court documents, Dorothy Reynolds, 66, was halfway into an in-flight movie on Continental Airlines Flight 3 when Kingzio, who had been drinking and disturbing other passengers, got up from one row back and urinated on her arm, side and leg.

U.S. Attorney Ed Kubo said the incident ruined Reynolds' entire vacation and continues to cause her emotional distress.

USS Arizona center to close early

The USS Arizona Visitor Center will close one hour earlier at 4 p.m. April 23 due to a temporary water shutoff because of construction being done in the area.

The last tour of the day will begin at 2:15 p.m., concluding at 3:30 p.m. Normal operations will resume on April 24.
