A 23-year-old Schofield Barracks soldier who died Sunday in a roadside bombing had a premonition he would be killed in Iraq, his brother's fiancee said.

Spc. Michael J. Anaya of Crestview, Fla., died when a bomb exploded near his vehicle north of Baghdad, according to the Pentagon.

Katie Rowe, who is engaged to his older brother, Carmelo Jr., told the Northwest Florida Daily News that her future brother-in-law had told his brother, “;I have a feeling that I'm not going to make it back, but that's what I'm meant to do.”;

“;He said, 'It's not just for you and the family and my nieces and nephews. It's for everybody,'”; according to Rowe.

Anaya was the fourth soldier of the 25th Infantry Division's 3rd Brigade Combat Team to be killed in Iraq since October. He was assigned to the brigade's 2nd Battalion, 27th Infantry Regiment. He joined the Army in 2006 and was assigned to Schofield Barracks in January 2008.

Family members told the newspaper that Anaya, who was single and liked to be called “;Mike,”; was killed when his truck rolled over a roadside bomb.

Rowe said, “;He knew the risk, and he said that's what he loved and that's what his life was meant for. He has, ever since he was 5 years old, known that's what he wanted to do.”;

The Associated Press said Anaya's death brought to nine the number of U.S. soldiers killed this month in Iraq.

On Friday, five soldiers died in a suicide truck bombing in Mosul in the deadliest attack for the U.S. military in more than a year.

Last month the U.S. military recorded its lowest monthly death toll in Iraq since 2003. Nine troops died in March, five of them in noncombat-related incidents.
