Perfect day

For the past 13 years, Canon USA Hawaii has reached out into the community to showcase local talent with its amateur photo contest. It's no surprise that this year's batch, centered on the theme “;A Perfect Day in Hawaii,”; features folks enjoying the great outdoors.
Lincoln Ishii took top honors with “;Banyan Swings,”; a shot that captures a bunch of children having a grand old time under a banyan tree. Darcie Bundan's photo of two boys cooling off in an ice chest took second, while Gregory G. Helm Jr.'s picturesque piece of a canoe on still water earned him third place.
This year's competition, held from December through February, drew more than 520 entries from 226 photographers. Judges, who included Jeff Fukui of Canon U.S.A. Inc.; Ric Noyle, commercial photographer; and Kim Gennaula of Kapiolani Medical Center, based their assessments on visual impact and technical skill. Winners were awarded Canon cameras (of course).
Canon Photo Gallery, 210 Ward Ave., Suite 200, is showing the winning works, plus 22 honorable mentions, through April 29. Gallery hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays to Fridays. Call 522-5930.
