Spear fisherman missing off Kona

The Big Island Fire Department was searching for a missing spear fisherman reported missing yesterday morning offshore of the Kona Makai condominiums, according to a news release.

The wife of the 49-year-old San Francisco man reported him missing at 10:49 a.m. His dive partner gave firefighters a general location of where they had been diving and said they went out four hours earlier.

Items apparently belonging to the missing man were spotted by the Fire Department helicopter and turned over to Big Island police.

The Fire Department said police are conducting further investigation into the incident.

Aiea pedestrian dies of injuries

A 69-year-old Aiea woman died Friday after she was hit by a sedan in Aiea the day before.

The Honolulu Medical Examiner's office identified the woman as Benita Paguirigan. An autopsy will be performed tomorrow.

Police said that at 2:09 p.m. Thursday, Paguirigan was crossing Kaimakani Street in a crosswalk when a Chevy Malibu, turning left from Moanalua Road, hit her.

The 61-year-old driver was wearing his seat belt and apparently was not injured.

Paguirigan was the 22nd traffic fatality on Oahu this year.

 

Boy, 12, arrested in school assaults

Police arrested a 12-year-old boy Wednesday who allegedly assaulted two staff members at his Honolulu school.

Police said the boy became agitated at about noon Wednesday and assaulted a 55-year-old man and a 55-year-old woman after he was asked to calm down.

Police arrested the boy for investigation of second-degree assault.

Man, 61, arrested in sexual assault

Police arrested a 61-year-old man who allegedly worked with an accomplice to sexually assault and rob a lone woman who was waiting at a bus stop in Waipahu on Friday night.

At 9:45 p.m. Friday the 27-year-old woman was approached by two men, one of whom held what felt like a knife to her back, police said.

The other man stood in front of her, exposing himself and masturbating, then ripped open her shirt, according to a police report. His accomplice demanded her cell phone but later dropped it and ran.

The man who had exposed himself then boarded a bus and was caught by police at Farrington Highway and Awalau Street. The woman identified him as the suspect.

The second man was not immediately located.

 

Man, 20, accused of abusing ex-lover

Police arrested a 20-year-old man in Waianae who allegedly abused and threatened his ex-girlfriend for talking with another man.

The suspect and the victim, 18, lived together for four months in the woman's grandmother's house but had broken up.

On March 13 the suspect went into the house through an unlocked door at about 3 a.m., went into the victim's room and dragged her by her hair out of bed and threatened to kill her for talking with another guy, police said.

Police said the victim did not report the incident until March 20.

On March 21 the victim told police that the suspect sent to her cell phone a photo of him with a gun in his waistband.

The suspect turned himself in to the Waianae substation Wednesday and was arrested for investigation of first-degree burglary, two counts of first-degree terroristic threatening and abuse of a household member.

 

CENTRAL OAHU

Motorist charged in theft of rifle

Police pulled over a 27-year-old man for a traffic violation in the Wahiawa area close to midnight on Friday and found that he had a stolen rifle in his car, no driver's license and five outstanding warrants.

The man, of a Karsten Drive address in Wahiawa, was arrested at 12:15 a.m. yesterday and charged with theft, carrying a loaded firearm and driving without a license.
