Former Hawaii assistant coach George Wolfe will apply to be the next women's basketball coach for the Rainbow Wahine.

Wolfe, 55, coached alongside Vince Goo—a member of the five-person search committee—for 13 years until 1999 and was the head coach at Portland State until 2004. The Vikings went 43-97 in his five years there. He's lived on the East Coast with his family since and has been involved with youth basketball.

“;I'm pretty excited about the opportunity to come back,”; the Kalani High and UH graduate said from Germantown, Md. “;It's my alma mater ... having sat side by side with Vince and helping him create (a winning tradition here), I have an understanding of how to bring a good, solid program together.”;

He joins former men's basketball player and assistant Alika Smith, Idaho associate head coach Gavin Petersen, and former Arizona head coach Joan Bonvicini as people known to have interest in the job, which was opened on Monday with Jim Bolla's dismissal.
