Stanley, Reft, Thomas on FIVB team
Three former Hawaii volleyball players were named to the preliminary roster for the U.S. team in the FIVB World League men's tournament.
Selected to the 22-player roster are opposite Clay Stanley—the MVP on last summer's Olympic gold medal team—libero Alfee Reft and middle Delano Thomas.
The roster will be cut to 19 players by April 30 then to 12 for league play.
Ho, Blanchard fall at Rip Curl Pro
Hawaii's Coco Ho and Alana Blanchard lost in the third round of the RIp Curl Women's Pro yesterday at Bells Beach, Australia.
Ho fell to New Zealand's Paige Hareb in the third heat with a score of 9.83, while Blanchard fell to Brazil's Silvana Lima in the fifth heat, clocking in at 14.17 compared with 15.53.
Ho and Blanchard were the two remaining competitors from Hawaii as Melanie Bartels was previously eliminated.
BYUH advances in PacWest tourney
Brigham Young-Hawaii defeated Chaminade 5-0 in yesterday's PacWest Conference Women's Tennis Championship semifinals in Kailua-Kona. The Seasiders claimed all three singles matches in addition to two singles matchups to decide the contest.
Jenny Chen and doubles partner Wen-Lin Wang each claimed victories in both of their singles and doubles matches. Chen and Wang won at the No. 2 doubles 8-0 before claiming individual victories, Chen at the No. 3 singles, a 6-0, 6-0 win over Nathalie Phanphendgy and Wang at the No. 4 singles, a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Stacey Chaussoy.
The remaining four competitors for both squads did not complete singles matchups as the contest winner had already been decided.
BYUH advanced to the PacWest championship match at 9 a.m. today.
