Hawaii teams advance in tourney
Audrey Takara won No. 1 singles and also teammed with Tiffany DeVincent to take their doubles match as Chaminade edged Grand Canyon 5-4 in the first round of the Hawaiian Airlines Pacific West Conference women's tennis championship tournament yesterday at Kona on the Big Island.
The other three first-round matches were all shutouts.
Top-seeded Brigham Young-Hawaii beat Notre Dame de Namur and Hawaii Pacific took down Dixie State, both by 9-0 scores. Hawaii-Hilo beat Academy of Arts 8-0.
This morning, BYU-Hawaii was slated to meet Chaminade and HPU was scheduled to take on Hawaii-Hilo in semifinal matches.
