VETERAN Hollywood character actor Don Stroud, a Kaimuki High grad and former Waikiki beachboy, announced the queen and her court at the St. Francis School Prom on Saturday night at the Hilton Waikiki Prince Kuhio Hotel. Stroud's appearance at a high school prom fit the theme of the evening, “;The Golden Age of Hollywood.”; He awarded faux Oscars to the prom royalty. He got a big reception when introduced. The deejay played music from “;The Buddy Holly Story,”; one of Don's films, and Don sang the lyrics to “;Peggy Sue”; before joining wife Teri to announce prom queen Oto Iuvale and princesses Arianna Tyler and Keala Bertulfo.
There were 8-by-10-inch glossy collages of movie scenes on the tables, along with “;Hollywood”; plastic centerpieces. WHEN a Cazimero holds a CD release party, you can be sure there will be plenty of music and hula. That's how it was March 28 at Don Ho's Island Grill when Rodney Cazimero unveiled his “;Kohala Moon”; album. Rodney was born in Kohala. He's put many cherished memories into the 14 songs that he wrote for the album. There are songs of love, of family and friends, songs with a paniolo beat, a Christmas song, and he's even tossed in a bit of swing and gospel. It's good listening. About 200 people attended the release party, including Rodney's family, friends, travel industry associates, musicians and singers.
Performers making the scene included Rodney's brother and sister, Roland Cazimero and Kanoe “;Tootsie”; Cazimero, and Melveen Leed, Kanoe Miller, Sunway Chong, Jan Brenner, Ron Short, Tito Berinobis, Billie Beames, Sky Perkins Gora and David Kauahikaua. The album's title song was danced by Tootsie, and “;Maunaloa Blossom”; was danced by his daughter, Kalei Summer Cazimero. Kalei is also a backup singer on the album.
