38-year-old Gareth Baoy died late Sunday night after he crashed his truck into the Wilson Tunnel entrance on the Kaneohe-bound side of the Likelike Highway, the same site where three people were killed in a car accident earlier this year which also involved excessive speeding.

A 38-year-old Kailua man was killed Sunday night in a single-vehicle crash on Likelike Highway, police said.

The victim was Kaneohe-bound at about 10:06 p.m. in a gray 1998 Toyota pickup when he lost control, spun sideways and crashed broadside into a utility building near the entrance to the Wilson Tunnel, police said. The Medical Examiner's Office identified the victim as Gareth Baoy.

Baoy died at the scene of the crash, police said. No one else was in the truck. Police said Baoy was not wearing a seat belt and may have been speeding.

Last night's crash was near the spot where three people died Feb. 26 in a single-car crash. In that incident, police said, James Krzywonski, 30, was drunk and driving more than 100 mph when he lost control of his Audi Coupe and crashed into a wall at the tunnel entrance. Keone Cardenas, 25, and Amelia Albertson, 22, also died in the crash.

So far this year 20 people have died on Oahu roads, compared with 13 at this time last year.

Kalihi man accused in rape of ex-wife

Police arrested a 42-year-old man who allegedly raped his ex-wife last month.

Police said the suspect and the victim, 51, are divorced but live in the same Kalihi boardinghouse, in separate rooms.

On March 24 the suspect went into the victim's room at about 6 p.m., and an argument ensued, police said. The man then raped the woman, police said.

The man fled but was found Sunday in Kalihi Valley and arrested for investigation of first-degree sexual assault.

Stolen-car check leads to arrests

Police arrested two men and a woman who were caught allegedly driving a stolen car.

Police said an officer pulled over a car in Kapolei at about 3 p.m. Sunday for a traffic violation. The officer learned that the license plate did not match the description of the car.

The officer checked the vehicle identification number and learned that the car had been reported stolen March 23.

Police arrested the occupants, an 18-year-old Waialae man, a 33-year-old Mililani man and a 30-year-old Waipahu woman, for investigation of auto theft and unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle.

WINDWARD OAHU

Trio allegedly seen stealing from car

Police arrested two men and a woman who allegedly stole items from a rental van at Windward Mall.

Police said two women, ages 42 and 44, parked their rental van at the mall at about 6 p.m. and went shopping.

A witness told police that right after the women went into the mall, another van pulled in front of the rental and a man jumped out. The man then broke into the rental van, stole something and jumped back into his van, which was being driven by another man, police said.

The witness called police, and officers found the van in Waimanalo. The officers arrested the occupants of the van, two men, ages 45 and 44, and a woman 41, for investigation of unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle.
