2 hikers on separate trails rescued

Firefighters rescued two people from hiking trails yesterday.

At about 1:20 p.m. a Japanese visitor was having seizures near the top of the Diamond Head trail, said Honolulu Fire Capt. Earle Kealoha.

Firefighters hiked up to the man and found him still showing signs of seizures. A fire helicopter picked up the man and transferred him in unknown condition to paramedics at a nearby park at about 2:35 p.m.

Firefighters responded at about 1:50 p.m. to a 51-year-old woman who hurt her ankle about halfway up the Koko Head trail.

Firefighters hiked up to her and carried her down, transferring her to paramedics about an hour later.

Search for missing fisherman halted

Big Island firefighters called off the search Saturday for a 35-year-old fisherman who was reported missing on Wednesday.

Firefighters searched about 20 square miles in a helicopter and rescue boats and underwater near Orr's Beach in Puna.

The man was fishing with a friend along Government Beach Road in Waawaa when he jumped into the ocean while holding a rope, Big Island firefighters said. The man was trying to cross a channel but succumbed to the waves.

Police did not release the man's identity.

Man charged with trying to lure girl

A 22-year-old Ahuimanu man was charged over the weekend after he allegedly arranged to meet and have sex with a 14-year-old girl he met online.

Spencer Gouveia was charged with first-degree electronic enticement of a child. His bail was set at $30,000.

Police said Gouveia was arrested at about 8 p.m. Saturday after he showed up at the agreed-upon meeting place, King Intermediate School.

Threats to mother lead to boy's arrest

Police have arrested an 11-year-old boy who allegedly threatened to kill his mother with a knife.

At about 7:30 a.m. Friday, the boy made stabbing gestures with a kitchen knife at his 41-year-old mother and said he did not care if she died today, police said.

The woman feared the boy would follow through with the threats. Police booked the boy on suspicion of first-degree terroristic threatening.

Man uses gun in alleged threat

Police arrested a 45-year-old Kailua man Saturday who threatened to kill a 49-year-old Pearl City man with a handgun.

At about 8:20 p.m. the suspect drove up a street and pointed the gun at the older man, who was in his own driveway. He threatened to kill the man and drove away, police said.

The suspect was arrested nearby on suspicion of first-degree terroristic threatening.

Woman reports assault by 5 youths

An 18-year-old woman told police she was sexually assaulted by possibly five juveniles or young adults around 8:45 p.m. Friday at a recreational area in McCully.

She was found partially clothed and heavily intoxicated, and taken to Kapiolani Hospital. No arrests were made.

Suspect charged in bank robbery

Thomas Larkin, 45, of a Waikiki address was charged Friday in the robbery of the First Hawaiian Bank downtown at 2 N. King St.

He passed a note to a bank teller demanding money Wednesday morning and fled, police said. He was arrested nearby at 1136 Maunakea St. and is being held at Oahu Community Correctional Center.

Autopsy to be done on crash victim

The Honolulu Medical Examiner will perform an autopsy today on a 33-year-old motorcyclist who died Saturday in a crash above the Kahuku Motocross Track.

Police said the man was found dead after the crash at about 4:20 p.m.

Honolulu Fire Capt. Earle Kealoha said the man was found in a ravine about three miles above the motocross track entrance. Firefighters and other motorcyclists helped recover the man, who apparently had a cardiac condition.
