Asing wins junior world surf title
Hawaii's Keanu Asing won the Quiksilver ISA World Junior Championship in the under 16 division yesterday in Ecuador.
“;This is the biggest thing I have ever won,”; said Asing, who lives in Ewa. “;I knew I had to get good waves because every heat could have been my last. Coming to Ecuador has been an incredible experience.”;
Two other Hawaii surfers placed. Dylan Goodale finished fourth in the under 18 division, and Alessa Quizon was fourth in under 18 girls.

HPU wins Tournament of Champions
Courtney Kessell pitched 6 2/3 inning and scattered seven hits to lead Hawaii Pacific to a 5-3 victory over Cal State Dominguez Hills in the final of the 19-team Cal State Stanislaus Tournament of Champions yesterday at Turlock, Calif.
Tajia Acierto had a two-run single for the Sea Warriors (33-8) and teammate Kozy Toriano belted a two-run homer in the sixth.
Sherise Musquiz struck out the final batter in relief and earned the save.
“;The girls are just elated right now,”; HPU coach Bryan Nakasone said. “;We've been coming to this tournament for many years now, and this is the first time we've won it. I couldn't be happier for the coaching staff and players. We've always felt we were one of the best teams in the region, and now we've proven it.”;
CS Dominguez Hills dropped to 30-14.
Hawaii Pacific also beat Western Oregon 6-4 and Cal State Monterey Bay 8-4 yesterday on the way to the final.
Also yesterday at the Tournament of Champions, Hawaii Pacific defeated Chaminade 9-5 to move to the Bronze Bracket final, where the Vulcans lost to UC San Diego 10-2.
Musquiz and teammate Krystal Plunkett were picked to the all-tournament team along with Hawaii-Hilo's Lauren Holmes.
