Forum to address literacy, language
A free forum on “;Literacy, Language and Learning”; will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday in the Kana'ina Building on the grounds of Iolani Palace.
The forum, sponsored by Mission Houses Museum in conjunction with the exhibit “;Alphabet Soup: Literacy, Language and Learning,”; will be moderated by Jonathan Osorio, professor at Kamakakuokalani Center for Hawaiian Studies at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. Panelists are authors Noenoe Silva and Albert J. Schultz; Maenette Benham, dean of the School of Hawaiian Knowledge at the University of Hawaii; and Keoni Inciong, administrator of Hawaiian studies for the state Department of Education. Event to benefit abused children
“;Mahelani, Height of the Full Moon,”; a benefit for the Children's Alliance of Hawaii, will be held from 6 to 9:30 p.m. May 8 at Moanalua Gardens.
Entertainment will be by Holunape and Meridian, with food prepared by Big G's Catering.
Tickets are $175, or $2,500 to $10,000 for tables of 10.
Proceeds benefit programs that assist sexually abused children.
